Welcome to Ippos Molyvos

About Molyvos

Built with stone and wood, it first was named Mithimna after the daughter of King Makara. It took its second name, Molyvos, in 1355, when Lesvos was given to the ruler Gatelouzos Francis A as dowry. The origin of the name Molyvos may be from the abundant olive trees (Mont d’olives = Mount of Olives) or the numerous lead rocks in the region (lead in Greek is Molyvdos).

Whatever the name, its beauty is undeniable. Morning walks down vine-shaded cobblestone streets, fragrant with jasmine; dinner fiestas at the harbor; dips in the sea off the silver beaches of Eftalou; soaks in the local hot springs; vibrant, red sunsets illuminating the neighboring village of Petra—once you experience Molyvos, you will understand why it has been celebrated by generations of authors, poets, painters … and those seeking an unforgettable vacation on an island paradise.
